LAKEVILLE - The baseball team played host to Pioneer in a Hoosier North doubleheader. Coach Brian Lawler's club came away with a pair of hard-fought victories. LHS won the first game, 2-1, then pulled away with five runs in the top of the 7th to win the nightcap 10-3. In the opener, LaVille got a fine pitching performance from Luca Plummer for five-and-two-thirds, allowing 6 hits, no earned runs, and 11 strikeouts, but did not receive a decision. Andrew Wolford came on in relief with two outs in the top of the sixth. LaVille scored two game-winning runs in the bottom of the sixth. Following a flyout, Brayden Schwitz singled and Collin Czarnecki drew a base on balls. Karson Quinn then delivered a one-out single to right field, scoring Schwitz. Andre Gonzales drove home what would be the game-winning run on a ground out to first base, scoring Czarnecki from third. Wolford threw the final inning and earned the pitching victory. In game two, the two teams battled for six innings before Lawler's crew posted five big runs in the top of the 7th inning. With the Lancers leading 5-3, Schwitz was safe on an error. The LaVille offense then hit three straight singles and earned a base on balls. In the process, Czarnecki and Schwitz both scored. Caleb Howard then hit a sacrifice fly , scoring Israel Miller, who was a courtesy runner. Riley Filley cracked a double to center field, sending Gonzales home. Wolford scored on a sac fly by Braedyn Foster. LaVille sent nine batters to the plate and scored five runs on some nifty hitting and baserunning. Schwitz earned the win on the bump, tossing four innings. He allowed two hits, two earned runs, and four strikeouts. Gonzales and Wolford threw the final three innings, allowing no runs, one hit, and collecting four strikeouts. LaVille improved to 6-3 overall and 4-0 in the Hoosier North.
