As the IHSAA Week #8 regular season comes this week, the LaVille football team continues to improve. Last week, the Lancers picked up a much-needed victory against neighborhood and conference rival John Glenn. The victory broke a five-game losing streak after a season-opening win at Triton. This week, Jimtown pays a visit to Lancer Field. Kick for this Senior Night Indiana Northern State Conference game is scheduled for 7:00 PM. It is the 52nd meeting in the all-time series. Jimtown leads the series with LaVille, 42-9 overall. We had a chance to chat with LaVille head football coach Matt Thacker about the victory over the Falcons and Jimtown. "Practice has been good," saod Thacker. "Hopefully, we can put it all together tomorrow night against a very good football team." The Jimmies come in with a record of 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the Indiana Northern State Conference. Jimtown defeated Knox 27-20 last week and are looking to remain near the top of the INSC. "Jimtown is Jimtown," said Thacker. "They're going to be physical on offense and defense. We will need to play physically again in order to compete on Friday. If we don't, it will be a long night." After a 1-2 start, the Jimmies have won three out of their last four games. "Cameron Inbody (#3), their QB is a tough kid and we'll have to tackle him when he runs the ball and be sure to defend our zones when they decide to throw," said the Lancer skipper. "All of their running backs are talented and run the ball hard. We'll need to get 11 to the ball all night long. "They also return several on the offensive line and perform at a high level. They are a physical group and we'll need to match them up front." According to Thacker, Jimtown has many of their offensive starters that also play defense. JHS starts seven guys both ways, but #1 (Murphy DiPiro) is also their kicker, punter and returner. Really they play eight guys both ways. On defense, the Jims offense averages 24.6 points, while the defense allows 28 ppg. Logan Kelly (#68) is a big defensive tackle who moves well and has been a starter for the past 2-3 years," noted the LaVille coach. "Their OLB's have also been varsity football the last couple years and bring a ton of experience with them. As we closed our chat, we asked Thacker about keys to success for LaVille against Jimtown. "Keys to success are executing our offense and getting stops on defense. In special teams we cannot give them anything easy and make them earn everything." Last season, the Lancers broke a 25-year losing streak to Jimtown, winning 28-27 in overtime at Knepp Field. Let's play ... GAMEDAY Jimtown (4-3) at LaVille (2-5) Site: Lancer Field | Lakeville, IN.
