WALKERTON - Getting off to a good start! A solid start Thursday night in its first INSC match of the season, a road match, and neighborhood against rival John Glenn was exactly what the LaVille boys soccer team needed The Lancers executed the quick start as Kadu Tostes found the net in the second minute of play for an early 1-0 lead. It was a defensive back-and-forth for the next 40ish minutes as the Lakeville guests took the aforementioned 1-0 advantage into the intermission. LHS grabbed a second wind, so to speak, and pressured the Falcons into five second half goals en route to a 6-0 victory. "I thought the boys played a really solid game," said LaVille coach Keith Norman. "We came out with good energy and did a nice job controlling the game, especially in the second half. Energy is important when efficiency and quality are building, but overall I was pleased with the effort and the way we competed for 80 minutes." LHS remained sharp in their defensive effort and limited John Glenn to six overall shots. We asked coach Norman about the defensive effort and that of LHS goalie Kyler Christy to earn the shutout. "Defensively, it was a great performance," Norman explained. "The back line stayed organized, communicated well, and did a good job limiting their opportunities. Our goalkeeper was also very composed and made the plays he needed to make when called upon. Getting a shutout is always a great accomplishment because it takes a full-team defensive effort." Norman's club came out solid in the second half, getting an early goal from Clark Rowe, assisted by Kadu Tostes, in the 43rd minute. The Lancers then scored four goals in a 13-minute span as LaVille improved to 4-0 overall and open conference play with a 'W'. "It was important for us to start the conference season with a win," noted the Lancer skipper. "Every conference game is important, and getting three points right away gives us some confidence and momentum moving forward. "I was also happy with the way the guys stayed focused and played for each other. We talk a lot about being responsible for the team, and we saw a good example of that. We’ll enjoy the win, but we know there’s a lot of season left and plenty we can continue to improve on." Norman also made special note about Lancer Nation and the support the team feels. "To the Lancer fans that traveled to John Glenn with us, we see you, we hear you, and most importantly we feel you!" said the LaVille coach. "Culture is building, Community is growing, Love is spreading. It's not the wins and losses that will define our legacy but the effort and care we share together.
