Part 1 of 2 LAKEVILLE - Longtime administrator Will Hostrawser has turned off his office door light and locked the LaVille athletic office door for the final time. Hostrawser has spent just over 29 years in education, with over 25 years as an athletic director and looks forward to his well-deserved retirement. "I have spent over half my career at LaVille - it will always hold a special place in my heart," said the former Lancer boss, who also departs as the winningest LaVille football coach. "I've poured my heart and soul into making it the best place it could athletically be for our students, coaches, community and fans. I will certainly miss the relationships, the student-athletes, the school staff, the coaching staff as well as the event staff. I will also miss working with sports officials." The John Glenn High School graduate was a standout quarterback, linebacker, tight end, and punter for the Falcons. He was also a pretty good baseball player that ultimately decided to continue his academic and athletic career at Bethel (College) University. His path in education started as a student teacher at South Bend Riley High School in the business department in 1992-93. He also was an assistant football coach and junior varsity baseball coach at John Glenn while he was student teaching. Hostrawser also was an IHSAA basketball official and baseball umpire. Following his student teaching and graduation from Bethel, he taught business at John Glenn for the first 4 years of his career (1993-97). He taught marketing, business law, intro to business, consumer math, word perfect, microsoft word and microsoft excel. According to Hostrawser, he was also responsible for building the first networked computer lab at John Glenn. During this time he was the defensive coordinator on the football coaching staff in the fall, officiated basketball games in the winter and was Glenn's head baseball coach in the spring. After completion of his fourth year as a teacher, Hostrawser was given the opportunity to be the Athletic Director - a position he held for the next 5 years (1997-2001). He gave up his football coaching position, however, retained his head baseball coaching position for 4 of those years. That athletic administration position would continue through the end of the 2025-26 school year and his retirement. "In 2002, I was hired as the assistant Athletic Director at Penn working with Ben Karasiak - I held that position for the next 3 years (2002-04)," said Hostrawser. "In 2005, I was hired at LaVille as the Athletic Director - I stayed for one year (2005-06 school year). I chose to leave to pursue business interests outside of education. "I built, opened and ran Beef O'Brady's Family Sports Pub in Plymouth for 5 years (2006-11). Our store had the 5th largest opening volume in franchise history." According to Hostrawser, "While I was in the process of building out the restaurant, I had a friend who was an administrator at Oregon-Davis who was in desperate need of an athletic director due to some unusual circumstances he encountered. So I agreed to help him out and became O-D's Athletic Director in 2006 - a position I held for a year and a half." During his time as AD at Oregon-Davis, the Bobcats won the girls and boys basketball state championships. OD was the first school in Indiana's history to win both boys and girls state basketball titles in the same school year. In 2011, "I was re-hired at LaVille to become the Athletic Director and I have held that position for the past 15 years (2011-2026)." *The second of our two-part retirement of LaVille will follow on June 23 right here.
