LAKEVILLE - As the 116th edition of the Indiana High School Athletic Association begins this week, Hoosier Hysteria steps to the forefront. Like the newest saying goes, "In 49 states, it's just basketball ... but this is Indiana," Hoosier Hysteria is ready for last-second shots, upsets, overtime, and down-to-the-wire action.  The aforementioned slogan was created by ad writer Carrie Voris for the WNBA's Indiana Fever launch back in 1998. GAMEDAY is set for opening tip from the IHSAA Class 2A LaVille Sectional from Dale E Cox Gymnasium on March 3, 2026. The opener pits 2A #11 Bremen (19-4) against the host Lancers (14-10). These two have been rivals since the consolation of LaPaz and Lakeville back in 1965-66. Over that time the rivalry has been a part of the IHSAA state tournament, the Bi-County Basketball Tournament, and regular season games to the tune of 95 meetings. Bremen leads the all-time series 52-43, although LaVille leads the series in games played at LaVille, 29-26.  The last Lion victory came earlier this season, 49-32, on January 30, 2026. On March 3, 2026 LaVille will be hosting the IHSAA Sectional for the first time since 2005. This time around five teams enter with at least 10 victories this season, including four with 14 or more wins. According to John Harrell's prediction, Bremen and Jimtown are the front runners, followed by Winamac. He has LaVille as an outside shot as the fourth team possible to claim the sectional title. The Lions are 3-0 against teams in Sectional #34 and 6-0 against teams in Class 2A.  LHS, meanwhile, is 2-2 against teams from Sectional #34 and 3-4 against other Class 2A teams this season. "Bremen and Jimtown are definitely the favorites, but anything can happen at any given time," explained LaVille coach Michael Edison.  "This is March, correct? Don't they say that madness occurs in March.  It would be a big upset for us to beat Bremen, but I'm the first person in line believing that we can do it!" Coach Greg Miller's Lions defeated LaVille, 48-32, in late January, but Edison has been around the game long enough to know that anything can happen. John Harrell has gone on record to predict Bremen to defeat LHS in the LaVille Sectional opener, 54-42. The last sectional victory for LaVille against Bremen was a 57-38 decision on March 3, 2017. Bremen is averaging 55.5 points per game and is 13-0 when scoring at least 55 points.  The defense has allowed 39.7 points per outing and is ranked the sixth-best defense in Indiana, regardless of class.  LaVille has averaged 49.3 per outing and are 11-3 so far this season when scoring at least 49 points.  The Lancer defense has worked hard to improve this season and closed by averaging 47.3 per game. LaVille is ranked in the top 50 in Indiana, regardless of class. We asked Coach Edison what it is going to take for a team to win this sectional. "Plain and simply one possession at a time," said the Lancer coach. " Focus on the defensive or offensive possession we are involved in and find ways to get little victories. "We are definitely a capable team, but we need to execute better than we have been." WINAMAC v KNOX In the nightcap, Winamac is looking to advance to Friday's semifinals at Knox. The Warriors topped the Redskins 61-46 on December 6, 2025. This series is tied at 32-32, but Knox leads 11-9 in games played during the IHSAA state tournament. WHS averages 54.7 points per game and are 14-1 when scoring 55 points or more so far this season.  The Warriors, who are coached by Mike Spring, hold its opponent to 35.7 per outing, which is the top-ranked defense in the state following the regular season. Knox, which is coached by Jason Breden, scores 46.6 points a game and are 5-4 when scoring at least 47 points a game.  The Redskins defense has allowed 53.3 per outing. John Harrell has predicted a Winamac victory, 57-38, over Knox. Lights, camera, it's Hoosier Hysteria time!
