LAKEVILLE - It's GAMEDAY as LaVille gets set to play host to South Bend Washington in a non-conference game. The junior varsity will tip at 6pm, with the varsity to follow. LHS leads the series 3-2 in recent history, including an exciting 51-50 decision on February 25, 2025, at the Great Western Forum. Coach Maurice Scott's team is 4-16 following a 73-66 loss to Lake Central. Washington, however, plays nearly all of its schedule against 3A and 4A-size schools. LaVille and Jimtown are the only 2A schools on the Panthers schedule. "SB Washington has a lot of quickness and length," said LaVille Coach Michael Edison. "They play about 8-9 guys and pick you up full court most of the time. They play a man to man defense, but will mix in a little bit of zone. Number one (Mike Stuckey) is not at all hesitant to shoot the ball and is definitely a scorer from all three levels." According to Edison, Washington is also expected to have another player back in their lineup against the Lancers that hadn't been playing for a while. This will be a two-game week as LaVille enters the final week of the 2025-26 regular season. Edison and his club knew the Panthers were a handful last season, using a steal by Lance Edison and subsequent basket with 11.1 seconds remaining to rally for the victory. Coach Maurice Scott is in his first year guiding the Washington boys basketball team and has the Panthers playing up-tempo. "They will be an extremely tough team for us as they really like to push the ball and get up and down the court and rebound extremely well," said the Lancer skipper. As the season winds down, we asked the Lancer coach important keys to finish with some momentum? "It really isn't any different than any other week, but against Washington rebounding will be accentuated and taking care of the ball will be extremely key as well," said Edison. "It's always nice to compete and play extremely well down the stretch as it can sometimes propel a team in the tournament." Following the Washington encounter February 24, Plymouth returns to the Lancer schedule on February 27. It will be the first visit for LHS to Plymouth High School since February 9, 2008. Game on ...
