LAKEVILLE - LaVille senior Braedyn Foster had a night to remember on Tuesday at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium. Foster, a 6'-2" post player, scored the game-winning basket with 3.3 seconds remaining to lift the Lancers to a thrilling 51-50 victory over Trinity Academy in high school basketball. Not only did he record the winning shot, he also scored a career-high 17 points to go with 11 rebounds to record the double-double. Both teams showed signs of solid defense, limiting the opponent to one shot and done. In doing so, there were several runs throughout the game. Trinity opened the game with a 9-2 lead, only to have LaVille return its own 12-2 spurt to close the first quarter. The Titans took a five-point lead at halftime after a 13-2 run in the second quarter. LHS then used its own 13-4 spurt to take a three-point lead heading into an exciting fourth period finish. As the excitement brewed, neither team took more than a two possession lead.  In fact, the lead changed five times with a tie in the final 1:50 of the game. Following Nathan Palmer's two free throws put Trinity ahead 50-49 with 28.7 seconds left, LaVille took a timeout to set up its next possession. As the Lancers worked the clock to under 10 seconds, senior Andre Gonzales took the ball from the left wing area toward the basket.  Gonzales neared the low post when Palmer stripped the ball and turned into a loose ball. Foster was nearby, scooped the ball up and went strong to the rim as Titan guard Max Busk challenged Foster's shot. The shot kissed off the glass and through the net for what turned out to be the difference for both teams. "I was wanting one of our players to penetrate and see what could happen," said LaVille Coach Michael Edison of the final play. "Andre spun and lost the ball and it just landed in Foster's hands and he finished by the rim." Edison's club went back and forth with its offense, turning the ball over 20 times in the contest. "I did not feel like we particularly played the best," explained the Lancer skipper.  "We had a lot of unforced turnovers and just couldn't get our half court defense rolling for much of the game.  We were just trying to scratch and claw and find a way to get a victory. The guys found a way even when we very easily could've lost it." When asked about Foster's effort, Edison said, "Foster had a really good game tonight. We could not have won the game without his defensive effort, rebounding, and finishing by the rim." It was Foster's second double-double of the season and came at the right time.  The senior post player surpassed a 15-point performance on December 28, 2024 against Hebron. "We battled and found a way to win against a team that played very well tonight in Trinity," said Edison. "I was proud of our guys for the way that they found a way to win.  It was a tough battle and lots of times those games go the other way." Junior Lance Edison led LHS with 19 points, while Andre Gonzales, another senior, chipped in with nine points, four rebounds, six steals, and six assists. The Lancers improved to 13-8 overall and will play host to Whitko on February 19 beginning at 6pm.
